Noliac is granted a new patent for the PAD
Even more compact piezo motor
The invention is a wobble motor driven by piezo actuators. Charles Mangeot, Senior R&D Engineer at Noliac, has been working on the PAD. He explains the new patent:
- We are happy that our research and development has resulted in this patent, which will play an important part in the next generation of our piezo motor, the PAD. We are currently working on several new versions of the PAD. Our newest patented wobble motor with a solid state actuator is just one of these. It is a version of the PAD based on our double bender or double S-morph technology. This opens up for much more compact motor constructions as well as major simplifications of the mechanical structure. It will allow us to miniaturize the PAD technology down to 6 mm in diameter, maybe less. We currently have a pen-sized version of the PAD on the drawing board. Another advantage of this patent is that that the motor has very low stiffness, enabling us to use polymers for the structure. Therefore, it will be a perfect candidate for small non-magnetic motor applications.
